Description
Gordon Scott was the first Tarzan in color films. His first Tarzan film, Tarzan's Hidden Jungle (1955) and Tarzan and the Trappers (1958 as an intended Tarzan TV series, not aired on TV until 1966), are the last black and white Tarzan movies. His other four are the first color Tarzan films, Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957), Tarzan's Fight for Life (1958), Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959) and Tarzan the Magnificent (1960). Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959) and Tarzan the Magnificent (1960) are considered the two best Tarzan action films ever made by many and Gordon Scott's Tarzan is intelligent, speaking proper English, as Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs intended, rejecting Johnny Weissmuller's comedic, light-hearted simpleton version from the 1930s and '40s who could never master the English language (Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan appeared in 12 films, from Tarzan the Ape Man (1931) to Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948)) and Lex Barker continued the Johnny Weissmuller version in 5 films, from Tarzan's Magic Fountain (1949) to Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953)).
